Dave Kay's Tracking Page

Hi! I'm Dave Kay, and I'm a student of human and animal tracks, which, being a computer geek, I call "data in the dirt." Welcome to my tracking page. I hope to include a variety of sign and print tracking photographs, images, and other materials here.

I've studied tracking in Tom Brown's advanced tracking class, under Paul Rezendes in Massachusetts, and have had some human-tracking training for Search and Rescue under Bob Presutti and Kent Hicks. I'm currently in Paul Rezende's Tracking Apprenticeship program, which focuses on sign, print, and print pattern tracking. You can reach me at dave@brightleaf.com.

Track Image Processing

I'm experimenting with some photographic and computer-processed images that help make tracks stand out.

  1. Print Awareness: Debris -- A "comparative pair" of images, which if you look at them crosseyed, will reveal tracks in forest debris.
  2. Print Awareness: Grass -- Closeup images for testing your print awareness in grass. A comparative pair is provided, as well as some computer-processed images to help you see the print.
